College Advising

Listed below are Regents SAT averages compared with those reported by the College Board (Nationals), the National Association of Independent School (NAIS), the Austin Independent School District (AISD), and the Eanes School District.

RSA's College Advising office implements a variety of programs that assist students in making the successful transition from high school to college.  The staff collaborates with students to support their self-evaluation and identify their goals and interests for higher education.  Students are encouraged to make thoughtful choices during this complex and stressful process.

The Academic and College Advising motto is "College is a match to be made, not a trophy to be won." Strategic college admission planning is shared by the college advisor and the student to develop a list of great fit institutions.  Beginning in their junior year students work with an advisor in all aspects of the advising process, from planning student courses with college in mind, to the actual mailing of college applications. The planning will include:

  • Parent/student workshops (9th-12th grade)

  • Personal conferencing and strategic college search

  • College examination and selection

  • Testing registration

  • Deadline and scholarship advising

  • Guidance in application package

The advisor collaborates with junior students to identify their goals and interests, through self-evaluation and research. Seniors are guided through the complex and weighty admissions process, and to make the healthy college decision that is the right match. Parents are encouraged to peruse Family Connection for helpful information on the college selection process at Regents.

A valuable college information tool for students is the Family Connection

  1. Track the process:  Build a resume, take online surveys, manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers

  2. Research colleges:  Compare GPA, SAT scores, and other statistics to actual Regents' historical data for students who have applied and been admitted in the past.

  3. Sign up for college visits:  Find out which colleges are visiting Regents and sign up to attend those sessions

Help in the College Search:

We provide a 4 year plan for each student that helps them develop a Rhetoric School curriculum program that matches their abilities and ambitions.
